StartMar 28
EndMar 28
IT help and support online is changing at the University of Manchester: Say ‘hello’ to the new Support Portal Let’s face it – Over the past few years IT help and support online has been clunky and frustrating, often discouraging people from using it. All of this is set to change in April with the launch of the new IT Support Portal. As a member of staff whose role involves logging IT requests and problems on behalf of others, we would like to invite you to a demo of the new system. During this sneak preview, we’ll walk you through each area and show you what the Support Portal can do. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you might have. Hope to see you there!
Thomas Gabriel ( Grandson of Johnny Cash )
StartMar 28
EndMar 28
T.G. - as those closest to him call him - is the oldest grandchild of Johnny Cash. Predominately raised on the road, he often dreamed of a life as a successful career musician. When he was young, his grandfather would call him onstage, to sing “When the Saints Go Marching In. At 21, he was in the studio trying out his voice. Johnny would say, “Son, you sound a lot like I did when I was younger; work on those vocals.”Johnny also insisted that T.G. have a back-up option, so he went to the police academy, and into police work.Life and adversity has kept him from pursuing his dreams, but he has regained control over his life, and is back in the world that holds so much potential for him.Along with his voice that sounds so much like his grandfather’s, he brings a wealth of stories from his memories of his childhood and of growing up a member of such an iconic family. This is an extremely intimate venue and tickets will be limited. https://www.forbes.com/sites/pamwindsor/2018/11/21/johnny-cashs-grandson-thomas-gabriel-comes-full-circle/?fbclid=IwAR2xpe25UgzDwMuSYvvJP-vtYsvl2FI5WQ5_WQ1dC-CWozbVCJEeoAIgEo0#4d3e2dbb4f13

The Aesthetics of Immersion: Chasing the Heart of A New Medium
StartMar 28
EndMar 28
What makes immersive art and entertainment so, well, immersive? What makes it different from more traditional forms of art and entertainment? Join Parsons School of Design professor John Sharp and University of Colorado Denver professor (and Denver Immersive Summit cofounder) David Thomas as they propose an aesthetic theory that explain the underlying structure of the immersive arts. This talk is based their recently released book, Fun, Taste and Games: And Aesthetics of the Idle, Unproductive and Otherwise Playful (MIT Press). From escape rooms and haunted houses to no proscenium theater and virtual reality, the authors argue that the FTG framework connects the immersive arts in a manner that the more traditional beauty aesthetics of fine art cannot. Enjoy food, drink, and robust debate while holding the professors accountable to their wild musings and flights of academic fancy.  (Note: The Enchantement Society is a private club located in Lakewood of West Colfax. Event address will be provided to ticket holders a few days before the show!) An important note about tickets We will be releasing tickets for this event in waves, so don't worry if the evening appears sold out! Stay tuned to the Denver Immersive Summit listserv for updates on ticket release times. If you're not already on our listserv, subscribe here.

StartMar 28
EndMar 28
Hunter Lovins' presentation has to be postponed; a date has yet to be found. Here's what we are offeing instead in this time slot: Ken Regelson: Zucchini, Renewables, & Airlines – How it all hangs together Th, Mar 28, 7pm  – free Jefferson Unitarian Church, 14350 W. 32nd Ave, Golden (Applewood) How do zucchini and airline tickets help us understand low cost renewable electricity? Or rather: How we can get very close to 100% renewable energy within a few short decades while at the same time keeping electric utilities in check who love to drive the cost up  by over-spending and over-investing? There are ways to ensure that our electricity is supplied reliably, safely, and economically – even cheaply! -– but it is not a trivial problem. Ken Regelson is an analyst and advocate for high levels of renewables. He is the founder of EnergyShouldBe.org, EnergyFreedomCO.org, and a co-founder of EmpowerOurFuture.org. As a regular CRES speaker he is appreciated for bringing complex issues down to a level where they’re easy to comprehend.
Lunchtime Webinar - Flexible Works: flexible working as part of the good work agenda for HR professionals
StartMar 29
EndMar 29
Flexible Works:  flexible working as part of the good work agenda for HR professionals Having flexibility in a job role is seen as desirable by over 70% of the UK working population. However recent research undertaken by the CIPD for their Megatrends report highlights that the extent to which we are working flexibly has seen little change over the last 15 years. With CIPD Chief Executive, Peter Cheese, chairing the government-led Taskforce on Flexible Working and flexible working being seen as a key component of the good work agenda, the Coventry & Warwickshire branch are delighted to be running a webinar on flexible working. As a branch we have historically run most of our professional development events in an evening which is not convenient for all our membership. Therefore in the spirit of operating more flexibly and inclusivity, we are experimenting with the webinar format for the first time at branch level. The webinar will last for one hour, will be hosted by branch Vice-Chair, Sally Dhillon, who will give an overview of the webinar functionality in addition to an introduction to the subject matter and #theCWdifference good work campaign. We will then hear from our two speakers: A Case Study on Flexible Working "Inside Atkins”  - with guest speaker Jennifer McClellan, HR Operations Partner, Transportation, Atkins Turning Flexible Working into Smart Working - with Ruth Gawthorpe, CEO Smart Working Revolution If you would like to take part in this webinar please register on this event page and you will be sent further details about how to log on to the webinar. Guest speakers Jennifer McClellan is a Human Resources Business Partner at SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business.  She is a passionate champion of diversity and inclusion, particularly in relation to supporting working parents in order to achieve greater gender balance both within and outside the workplace. Jennifer started an employee network to better support individuals and managers with the challenges of balancing parenting and work. The network has gone from strength to strength and discusses many issues, providing a support network and buddy system for pregnant women and new and “experienced” parents. Atkins recently signed the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s Working Forward Pledge publicly demonstrating its commitment to continuous improvement. Flexible working is a key theme in their 2019 action plan and forms a core part of the Business Strategy, People Strategy and Diversity and Inclusion Strategy. Ruth Gawthorpe is a passionate champion of Smart Working. Here’s her story.....  20 years ago, Ruth and her business partner, Oliver Thompson, started rolling out smart working options, such as term time teams, gym teams and compressed weeks into a corporate organisation. They’ve not stopped since. They have developed a methodology for successful implementation and, crucially, know what it takes to avoid the pitfalls. 5 years ago Ruth became wheelchair bound for a while and realised just how much talent cannot do the commute 5 days a week. Today, she’s CEO of the Smart Working Revolution. Ruth and the team support Business Leaders who are passionate about adopting Smart Working because it benefits business, employees and customers as well. When adopted widely, the impact of Smart Working on society will be powerful. That’s why Ruth and Olly lobby Government bodies and National associations to support organisations who implement smart options.
